The Annual Women’s Studies Conference is sponsored by Dickinson College, Franklin & Marshall College, and Gettysburg College as partners of the Central Pennsylvania Consortium. The CPC was founded in 1968 to promote institutional collaboration among three independent liberal arts colleges in south central Pennsylvania. The member institutions share a common dedication to the ideals of liberal education and seek to assure and advance the general quality and the intellectual support among the colleges’ faculty, students, and administrators. The colleges offer a wide range of academic and cultural programs at the three campuses in Carlisle, Lancaster, and Gettysburg.

The Central Pennsylvania Consortium (CPC) is now accepting proposals for the Women’s Studies Conference to be held Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Franklin & Marshall College with the theme, “Women and Higher Education.” The keynote speaker is Gloria Steinem — noted feminist, activist, writer, and publisher — who will speak at 2:00 p.m. There will be reserved seating for all conference registrants.

This year Franklin & Marshall celebrates forty years of coeducation, Dickinson College honors 125 years, and Gettysburg marks 126 years of coeducation. With these historic landmarks in mind, we are seeking proposals that consider the innovations, accomplishments, and on-going challenges related to women in higher education.

Proposals are being accepted now through December 1.

Full panel or individual proposals, poster presentations, and photo exhibits are welcome. Presentations from faculty, undergraduates, graduate students, andfaculty/student collaborations are also encouraged.

Send a 1–2 paragraph description, including the full name, email, phone, and institution of the presenter(s) to Kathy Missildine, kathy.missildine@fandm.edu, no later than December 1.

Notification of proposal acceptance will be sent by December 22.

We welcome proposals on a wide range of topics dealing with the theme of women and higher education. The breadth of the topic and its implications for women and men, students and faculty, are suggested by the suggested themes below. The list is not exhaustive and other subjects will be considered as well.
